We are excited to announce that we will be hosting a Summer School within the Monklands Replacement Project again during the school holidays in North Lanarkshire!
Last year’s Summer School
The MRP’s first Summer School took place in collaboration with the North Lanarkshire Council Education team and Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) in August 2023.
The Summer School was attended by senior school students from six local schools. Students were given the opportunity to engage with the project team and design team to learn more about all the various skills involved in planning and designing the new University Hospital Monklands. The 16 pupils who attended helped to create a mock architectural design for the new hospital over the course of five days, while developing their communication and presentation skills. The Summer School was such a success that the project team are currently firming up plans to host another group of students this year.
Engagement
We have engaged with schools across Lanarkshire to highlight the benefits of attending this Summer School to senior students and we will again be collaborating with our North and South Lanarkshire Education and DYW colleagues as well as our lead advisor team. We are working to develop a plan to help showcase the wide-ranging skills required to work towards a career in Facilities Management; which includes various NHS Lanarkshire jobs such as building maintenance, domestic services and estates management.
We aim to appeal to as broad a range of young people as possible and to encourage attendance from students interested in both clinical and non-clinical career paths. The hope is that we can help to inspire the next generation to think about a future career in the NHS and to highlight employment opportunities which will be available closer to when the new Monklands opens its doors.
Summer School 2024
The Summer School will take place once again at the University Hospital Monklands. This experience will afford students who attend the Summer School, the opportunity to add excellent experience to their CV’s and to stand out from the crowd when the time comes to move into the working world. Students will receive a certificate of completion to confirm their attendance at the end of the Summer School.
We will be in contact with Lanarkshire schools over the coming weeks to enrol our Class of 2024. We anticipate a huge amount of interest, however; places will be limited.
Further information on dates and how to apply to the Summer School will follow in the near future.
