New University Hospital Monklands

Building a new hospital to provide the most modern healthcare for our communities.

NHS Lanarkshire has an exciting and positive vision for a brand new University Hospital Monklands and the wider community it serves. The Monklands Replacement Project (MRP) involves a major investment by relocating and rebuilding the hospital at a new site, Wester Moffat in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire.

In June 2026, the Scottish Government announced its continued commitment to building the new hospital to provide the most modern healthcare for our communities. This welcome announcement brought about a new phase in the MRP’s programme, with a “reset” of the existing proposals and a requirement for hospital redesign work.

Keeping you fully informed during the reset phase

While the details of the reset are being finalised, we are reviewing the existing information on this website, and have created a new question and answer section on the developing plans (SEE LINK ABOVE/BELOW) that will be regularly updated to ensure the public and our staff are kept fully informed.

New sections covering topics such as engagement, hospital design, and plans for clinical spaces will be added to this website as soon information is available.
