MRP Community Benefits

Lesley Aitken
MRP Community Benefits Engagement Lead

What we’ve done

The MRP team recently enjoyed a charity quiz night along with our project partners, Laing O’Rourke, Currie & Brown, Keppie Design, WSP and Wallace Whittle. The night was organised by Laing O’Rourke and Currie & Brown in aid of Maggie’s Cancer Care and we managed to raise a fantastic £570.

Careers Roadshow, 3rd and 9th October 2024

What we’ve got planned

The MRP team have begun having a series of Career Roadshows in partnership with Developing the Young Workforce (DWY) over the coming months at secondary schools across Lanarkshire. The MRP Careers Roadshow will provide opportunities to engage with the young people and communities that the new hospital will serve, to inform them about the project itself and to inspire a future workforce. We will be joined by our colleagues from the wider design team to give advice on the numerous career opportunities across the project. If you are a parent/carer of teenagers, please bring them along to chat to us about career pathways and routes into the industry. The following Career Roadshow has been confirmed and more will be announced in due course:

9th October 2024

MRP Stage 3 Design Reviews

Fiona Cowan
MRP Clinical Lead

What we’ve done

We held our last stage 3 stakeholder 1:50 scale design review meetings last week. The MRP team and our teams on site have now reviewed around 5800 rooms for the new hospital.

Stage three design reviews. From left to right:

(from left) Mhairi Simpson – Nurse Consultant, Lorraine McFadyen – Senior Charge Nurse, Tracy Laird – Specialist Senior Nurse. Alana Thomson – Senior Charge Nurse, made a significant contribution to the meeting via teams.

What we’ve got planned

The stage 3 design reviews have concentrated on the equipment required for each room and the associated space required to care for patients. Alongside this, information on the number of power and data points required has been reviewed with the teams. The stage 4 design reviews will shift focus to concentrate on the technical side of the design. We look forward to welcoming your expertise and input again for this next stage.

MRP Immersive Suite Progress

Kathryn Henderson
Senior Project Manager

What we’ve done

Work has now begun on the Immersive Suite on the existing University Hospital Monklands site. The suite will be used as a functional education and showcase focal point for NHS Lanarkshire staff during the project design and construction phases. We are creating this facility to familiarise staff with how the new smart hospital will look and operate before it opens ensuring a more comfortable transition to the new facility.

What we’ve got planned

Foundation works will continue throughout October in the area adjacent to the Emergency Department and the Immersive Suite cabins will then be put in place. This is an exciting opportunity for staff and eventually members of the community to see the hospital design brought to life using virtual reality.
