Q. What excites you most about your role in building this new hospital?

A. “My exciting role allows me to be at the heart of this transformative project that will help shape healthcare for decades to come! It gives me the chance to help create a modern, digital hospital that will make a real difference to patients and staff. I enjoy working with different teams and making sure everything runs smoothly.”

Q. Could you please share a bit about your professional background and how your skills or experience are helping shape this new hospital?

A. “I have 30 years’ service in the NHS. My career began immediately after leaving school, joining the Medical Typing Pool at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. I quickly expanded my expertise in medical terminology through a dynamic role as a floating secretary, before settling into a permanent position as Medical Secretary in Haematology. Over the years, I have successfully held posts in several key specialties including Ophthalmology, Renal, Cardiology and Respiratory Medicine – each offering valuable insights and contributing to my broad understanding of healthcare operations.

In 2021, I was drawn to the Monklands Replacement Project and was delighted to be appointed as Project Administrator. Within just seven months, I was promoted to business manager, a role that has allowed me to contribute meaningfully to one of Scotland’s most ambitious healthcare infrastructure projects. During my time with MRP, I also achieved a degree in Business Management – a milestone made possible through the encouragement and support of my exceptional colleagues.”

Q. What values or principles guide you in your work, and how have they influenced your approach to this project?

A. “I’m guided by values of integrity and collaboration. I believe this is key to working within the project. I treat everyone with the same respect and fairness no matter who they are – patients, colleagues and stakeholders. I also value learning and growth, which is why I pursued my degree.”

Q. Can you please describe a personal highlight of the project so far?

A. “A standout moment for me was when the MRP team successfully delivered the Outline Business Case for the new hospital. It was a major milestone where the team worked tirelessly to ensure the case reflected the vision, needs and future ambitions of the hospital. Being part of this process was incredibly rewarding, knowing it moved the project one step closer to reality.”

Q. In what ways do you think the project will leave a lasting legacy for the Lanarkshire community?

A. “I think the new hospital will help people in Lanarkshire. It will give better healthcare, create jobs and be kinder to the environment. It’s designed with local people in mind and is not just a new building but something that will make life better for the whole community.”
